THE HIGH ART OF FASHION FERRAGAMO TAKES ON THE LOUVRE

A prized moment in fashion history has occurred, as noted designer Salvatore Ferragamo has recently been awarded the possibility of holding a catwalk for his collection in one of the world’s most prestigious institutions - the Louvre. In response to the Florentine company’s sponsorship of the current exhibition of “La Sainte Anne, Leonardo DaVinci’s Ultimate Masterpiece”, on display until the 25th of June, the Ferragamo runway show is living proof that fashion can be and is equated with high art.

The show took place within the building, on the 12th of June, directly under the Denon wing’s colonnade, where Ferrragamo models graced a 120-meter runway. Creative director since 2010, Massimiliano Giornetti, who brought immense attention to the brand with his shoe designs, was at the core of the show’s organisation. As for the 2013 ‘resort’ collection shown, it was designed in a pale stone colour, in special harmony with the Louvre and Parisian architecture, and praised the traditional Italian mini, while also taking into account Parisian trends, with loose, beige trousers, for example. Evidently, Ferragamo was aware of the need to blend art and history during his show, and establish good relations with the fashion capital that has given him the privilege of spreading his name within the competitive industry.

On the whole, the Ferragamo family viewed this opportunity as a great honour, and particularly, a chance to affirm their passion for the arts and culture, a part of their cherished Italian heritage.
