THE FASHIONLECTUALS

Whereas a decade ago, wearing glasses implied a yearlong subjection to name-calling and teasing, today, it has become a noted fashion accessory and statement. Celebrities, such as Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway and Zooey Deschanel, have all helped to spread the ‘intellectual’, big-framed look, praising the fact that it’s finally chic to be a four-eyes.

We all know that glasses come in all shapes, shades and sizes. But, choosing the right pair can be quite an ordeal. For those of you with oval faces or heart-shaped faces, with high cheekbones, rounded frames are the best choice. If you have strong jaw lines, opt for ones with softer rims or rounder edges. Oval cat-eyes have the benefit of suiting nearly all face shapes. For a perfect fit, it is important that your eyes are centre of the frame horizontally. If you have round cheeks, try a more rectangular, retro-looking frame. The trick is to pay attention to proportions and balance, especially if you have petite features. You want people to still notice your beautiful eyes and not only your new glasses, as lovely as they may be. In addition, a thick frame gives off a friendlier, vintage vibe. Usually, I would say avoid bright colours. However, you can have fun with these during the warmer summer periods or as mood reflectors.

So, Geek-chic is back, and with all our deadlines and work plans, we can’t express how thrilled we are to hear it! Girls, apply your make-up, comb your hair, grab a pair of specs and head on over to your desks – welcome to the world of the Fashionlectuals!
