RELEASING YOUR INNER CHILD WITH CARTOON INSPIRED FASHION

Remember the days when Disney films were the only thing that caught and could hold our full attention? When furry little creatures were the cutest things in the world and trips to the mall were incomplete without going into the Disney Store and suckering mummy into a plush toy for our collection.

Well now thanks to Britain's very own Stella McCartney, you can relive those halcyon days, as the fashion designer takes us down memory lane by playing with our childhood emotions and incorporating Disney into her newest Bambi-inspired ad campaign for Fall 09.

The campaign, photographed by Ryan McGinley, was shot in Worcestershire Woods and features some of the film’s most prominent characters - Bambi himself - and entourage of Thumper, Friend Owl, Flower, as well as the film’s collection of butterflies, squirrels, and other woodland creatures.

The collection - quoted by McCartney as fierce - are striking and make a piercing contrast with the neighborly innocence that is Bambi. Model Sigrid Agren, recently photographed for Prada and Nicole Farhi, will be featured with double-page spreads in next month’s issues of Italian, French and British Vogue, V and Another Magazine.

This Disney inspired campaign only shows us how much kids’ stuff can be resurrected from old parchment cartoons and breathe new life into our wardrobes. And the cartoon characters from our childhood doesn’t stop there but seems like it’s spawning into a fashion trend that is on the rise. Even Casablanca’s Jean Charles de Castelbajac used America’s popular children show, The Muppets, and covered his models with the character friends. Additionally Lady Gaga has jumped on the cartoon band wagon and sported one of his shirts with Animal on the front and a coat that consists of nothing but Kermit’s posing the question - how many frogs does it take to cloth the Gaga Diva.

Further, Jeremy Scott, US designer, has embraced the cartoon phenomenon for autumn/winter 09 and used Mickey Mouse as his fashion muse. The mouse himself is showcased on the abstract hemlines of flirtatious dresses to the more obvious face on Adidas trainers.

So fashionistas - don’t be wary of sporting your old cartoon favourites; the caricature-inspired couture is on a rise and there’s nothing better than releasing your inner child with mixing your favorite pieces with your favorite past-times characters. If that’s not fashion to fawn over, I don’t know what is!
