MENS FASHION: ED WESTWICK - MALE FASHION STYLE ICON?

Ed Westwick is not only best known to most for playing Chuck Bass on American drama ‘Gossip Girl’ but he is also best known for his chic fashion sense.

Actor, musician, model....fashion designer? Westwick has swept the fashion world recently, by first becoming the new face of K-Swiss and now rumours are circulating that the British born heartthrob will soon be launching his own fashion line.

Westwick appeared in this month’s issue of GQ showcasing this year’s fall fashion before it hits the shops and was pictured in many designer threads including Burberry Prorsum, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada.

His GQ shoot included a gorgeous Rag & Bone trench - trenches are a big thing over the catwalks for this winter - and he was also seen modelling a plaid dress shirt from Tommy Hilfiger. Preppy style is set to be big news once again this Autumn/Winter as designers Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford proved. Who better to model it than Westwick whose titular character in Gossip Girl is as famous for his geek chic/preppy style as he is his good looks.

It’s hard to tell whether Westwick is influenced by his on-screen characters slick style and whether it really is a case of life imitating art, but Westwick claims that his characters style is not down to him although he does enjoy getting to keep some of the clothes as mentioned in The Mirror, “I wear the suits. They’re killer, don’t you think? There is a lot of stuff I wouldn’t wear, but he really puts it together very well. The whole outfit just comes together as an interesting look.”

However Westwick isn’t all modest when it comes to his own fashion sense, “My style has always been good. Top notch, baby. I like the glamorous indie rock look, like the Libertines. But you know, without the heroin needle sticking out of my arm.”

Whether it is Westwick or his bad boy Gossip Girl alter ego who is responsible for his impeccable style, as long as either keep looking good, we’ll keep watching.
